  I just came back from Cambridge and read the blogs with real interest and curiosity, since I was off GBT the whole time.  What caught my attention most was a posting about Jesus and His real attitudes.  In general I have problems with his followers.  Some of the received opinions are just wrong and unfair.  My prime example is Saint Gerome, translator of the Latin (Vulgate) Bible in use at least until the Reformation Era.  

  Gerome wrote a comment on the "sin" of Onan, who scattered his seed upon the ground (masturbated).  Gerome used bad Greek biology  to hold that Onan had killed babies, because of the Greek idea that the man had the seed of life and the woman just carried the baby to term - you could call this the woman as flower pot notion of conception.  In other words the man was the generator and the woman just a receptor,

  This is possibly the stupidest theory ever put forth, since the first question ever asked when the baby is born is "who does he/she look like, the mom or dad?"  My friend Alexis said that only crabby, celibate men could believe such crap.

Am I reading into something that isn't there?    Or too much so?      It seems like there is some cultural phenomenon of people (guys and girls) holding the peace sign up to their faces and covering them with it in some manner.    Is there anything to that?    Nothing more than a pose or perhaps simply to conceal their face?    What do you all think or know?    It seems like it is something that originates from Japan and perhaps by way of manga or what I have for ages called Japanamation what that term is exactly in relation to those two words.
