Wilhelm von Gloeden Vintage Male Nudes Cute Young Romantic
Of all the collections, this took the most effort to create.
At least 95% of images have been extensively edited and carefully sequenced.
Also for the first time I changed all B&W to sepia, no doubt back in the day all would have been in sepia, but with the passage of time, reproduction of images would have been down to the whim of the editor.
Resolution/clarity for some are far from perfect, however I can only edit what I can find, which more often are very poor reproductions of the original image.
I have so far accumulated by Wilhelm 2470 images, which maybe can claim to have the largest collection in the world.
Wilhelm Iwan Friederich August von Gloeden (September 16, 1856 – February 16, 1931):While today Gloeden is mainly known for his nudes, and is considered "one of the founders of modern homosexual iconography."Suffering from ill health in his early twenties, von Gloeden moved to Taormina, Sicily where he was eventually joined by his sister. From Taormina, he would travel throughout Italy, visiting his cousin Wilhelm von Pluscrow, a commercial photographer based in Naples, who taught him photographic techniques. The onset of financial problems together with the gift of a camera led to von Gloeden’s early photography - selling postcards of the landscape and monuments of Sicily and taking portraits of the local inhabitants. The villagers attitude to von Gloeden’s open homosexuality was eased by his generosity and the royalities he paid his models, as some of the images sold by the thousand. After von Gloeden’s death in 1931, the Italian authorities, considering his work as pornographic, destroyed an estimated three thousand glass plate negatives and prints and by the end of the Second World War, only a few hundred images survived.
