Uncharted Territories
Another look at the photography of Evgeny Mokhorev, born 1967 in St.Petersburg. The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1989 left in its wake corruption and no relief from the poverty of the poor. Mokhorev's early sequences, 'Children's Games' and 'Leningrad's Youth', documented his home town's street life, showing both its resilience and its vulnerability. For obvious reasons I cannot show most of these images here.
He also created an almost surrealistic sequence of naked men posed within stark industrial structures as well as delicately beautiful youths as angels or posed amid the driftwood of deserted shores.
I think he is one of the finest contemporary photographers, who deals in realism and also probes the edges of realism.

Excellent...black and white photography is special in itself. I've already noticed that myself...b/w and analog with high sensitivity...
