The Art of Trevor Southey (1940-2015). Born in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), after a time at Brighton Art School Trevor Southey moved to California. He was a Mormon and believed in the innate beauty and potential of the human being. Married and with children, he came to accept his homosexuality --'Growth does not generally mean the killing of any part of oneself but the embracing of all enriching parts.' His paintings, prints and sculptures of the male nude combine spiritual depth with sensual undertones. His late book, 'Reconciliation', revolves around the theme that 'our spiritual lives need not reside separately from our sensual and emotional needs.'
