In the early '70s, while I was on a break from graduate school, I had never hitchhiked before and decided to hitchhike from Houston to Denver just for fun. It was quite an experience but nothing bad happened. I traveled with a lot of people - all them nice and helpful. The only sexual encounter I had was when a slightly older guy in north Texas picked me up on the way home. I was very tired (as he could see), so when he got off the highway and pulled off near a bridge and put his hand on my thigh, I didn't resist.
