Clip from The War Boys
“The War Boys.” Living in a U.S.-Mexico border town, they used to engage in vigilante activities, harassing and chasing undocumented immigrants crossing the border for thrills. As young adults, they reunite and hatch a scheme to hijack a truck they believe contains smuggled televisions for quick cash. Things spiral when the cargo turns out to be far more dangerous (involving drugs or something sinister), forcing them to confront personal “borderlines”—issues of friendship, class differences, family tensions, identity, and emerging romantic feelings (including a gay romance element between two of the characters). The film explores themes of borders (literal and metaphorical), immigration, privilege, coming-of-age struggles, and the consequences of reckless actions. It’s often categorized as an LGBTQ+ drama/romance with social issue elements, dealing with immigration and border politics.
