I don't hate the weather i have other stuff to worry about
About this time of year, I always mention to a friend or neighbor "I used to love winter, but for the life of me can't remember why" for a laugh or two, but actually: Last Spring's kittens (half cats) seeing their first snowflakes and doing their best to protect us from the "space invaders", the same cat crew experiencing snow above their heads for the first time, the "front porch" cats, front paws on the storm door window, heads covered in snow, looking in and demanding breakfast, a neighbor's Weimaraner pup making a fool of itself in the snow (also the neighbor making a fool of himself trying to join the fun), the first heavy snow drooping the limbs of the giant fir out back and running off the eaves of another neighbor's old barn like icing on a cake, morning sunshine on fresh snow, shining like a million diamonds, the pre-school kids at the daycare down the block, bundled to the point they walk through the snow like a bunch of penguins following the teacher on their morning walk, the 80+ neighbor lady filling her bird feeder in the snow and laboriously making and throwing a snowball at a raiding squirrel, then looking around to see if anyone was watching her effort at bird feeder defense, the family across the street putting Christmas lights on their Arborvitae in the snow, Dad holding the littlest one up to clip the lights near the top, the same little ones helping Dad to shovel the walkway, and his smiling patience, Mom bringing out mugs of hot chocolate (Norman Rockwell, eat your heart out), the first snowy night that neighborhood Christmas lights come on and shine red and green and yellow and blue on the white snowdrifts, getting up for the 3 AM pee and looking out the window to see an unbroken expanse of fresh white show in the street light, a lone light in a window a block over giving you the warm feeling of camaraderie among the legions of the 3 AM Pee Brigade, looking out on freshly cleared driveways and side walks, wet to the bone from melting snow, but feeling self satisfied with having won another battle in the Snowblower Wars, the 80+ squirrel warrior gingerly making her way up my front walk with a container of home made chili, thanks for clearing her walk and bird feeder path, the village snow plow driver taking the time to stop and move a left out garbage toter instead of playing snow plow soccer with it, several "outside parkers" helping each other scrape ice and snow and get each other's cars started at 6 AM on the first zeroish morning of the year....yes, I guess there are a few reasons I like Winter!
i luv winter. luv to walk and jog in the cold and snow. luv to ski. i do dread the gray skies and lack of sunshine.
