Phenomenal studio l.p....like everything by Zep. Though Robert Plant does not like it and Page and Bonham wanted...and intended...to follow it up with a harder rocking l.p. I think it is a saving grace and redeemer for them for not being some other hard rock jargon. They blamed John Paul Jones for doing the work while they were missing in action smoking, drinking, and doing drugs. Too bad for them and let the light shine on Jones! Of course we have learning in recent years Robert Plant has always hated John Paul Jones because his family had servants. (You think Robert Plant does not have personal assistants? Lol.) That is one of the reasons he has not done work with Jones in recent decades as they were rehearsing to do a reunion tour back in 1987 (there is home video footage of them doing so). That and the fact that Robert feels slighted by Jones never suffering the consequences of his lifestyle like he did and believes Jones never even gave him a compliment until the interview they did for the Polar Award in the early 2000's...
It's my favorite Led Zeppelin album, probably because of that double-accompaniment song. And also for some fun "Easter eggs", like the "sha la la la, sha la la la" (channelling the Brady Bunch Singers?), a country-western song in the middle, and a reference to The Sound of Music ("and you and you and you"). I won't tell you any others. (Can't stand the 2nd half of the final song, though, they should have cut that half out....)
