One of the best books I've read

You want an interesting read?  This book is all the rage right now.  This guy is a researcher out of California that asks a basic question of what we can do to increase our lifespans.  Beginning with a yeast model he was able to demonstrate that by restricting caloric intake organisms lived upwards of 8 times longer than average.  He thought that was very interesting and decided to see if he could duplicate the findings with higher organisms such as mice and humans.  In mice, he subjected the test subjects to periods of intermittent fasting and found that the animals lived sometimes twice as long as control subjects.  Across a whole spectrum of measures, he found that animals who underwent periods of caloric deprivation had lower levels of inflammation, cancer, adiposity, coronary vascular disease, cognitive decline and longer lived longer life spans.  He postulated and showed with very convincing scientific data that the body selectively breaks down weak, injured, and diseased cells during times of fasting through a process of catabolism and releases stem cells from the bone marrow to replace them with healthy strong cells.  Also, he showed that even healthy cells improved and strengthened their intracellular matrices and skeleton infrastructures during these times.  Rather than starving people to gain the aforementioned benefits, he found that all people needed to do was complete a 5 day regimen of eating 800 calories per day in whats called the fasting mimicking diet and do this like 3-4 times a year.  I know you're thinking god here we go again with ajoel and his bullshit, but it turns out that this is all the rage right now with elite athletes.  Marathon runners for example have found that recovery after an event is much easier in the setting where they do intermittent fasting.  Same with NFL linemen trying to navigate a punishing regular season.  I think the most interesting result however is how they're finding that by stimulating stem cell release that people with damage to the heart, brain, or central nervous system have seen reversal and improvement in their disease processes with this technique.  Kool stuff!  Anyways, just trying to start blogs that are thought provoking and that stimulate discussion.  Please feel free to leave any comments!  xoxo you all!  Ajoel

Some of my ancestors were scoundrels and always in trouble. The English Redcoats were forever hunting them down. As a result they lived off the land, hunting, fishing and gathering what little food they could. As a result they lived longer than most folks. I truly believe you have nailed it Cody
