That America adopted the Hebrew tradition of naming "Sunday" as the first day of the week. In the Judaic, some Christian, as well as in some Islamic tradition, Sunday has been considered the first day of the week.


But in the Slavic countries of Poland, Hungry, Bulgaria, and Russia "Monday" is considered the first day of the week.


The International Organization for Standardization starts the week with "Monday".


So here in America today, Thursday, is the last day of the week (but the business week begins on Monday).
