Hávamál, The Saying of Odin, Stanza 27
Hail and welcome! This is Huginn's Heathen Hof, with your Daily Hávamál.
It is best for the unwise
man to remain silent
No one will know
how little he understands
if he doesn't speak too much.
Unfortunately, most fools
do not know when
they have spoken too much

This is one of the most useful pieces of life advice to be found in the Hávamál. If you're not sure what's going on, or what people are talking about, just sit back and listen. If you try to fake like you know what you're talking about, eventually somebody's going to call you out on it.
Like Odin said in Stanza 7- "Much wisdom can be learned from quiet observation."
