I live in one of those towns..some are funny though
How about Toadsuck Ferry, Arkansas? I was stuck there for 2 days in the late 80s when my rental car broke down and the agency had nothing available. This is not a tourist welcoming suburb of some small city - I don't recall which - and the one and only eatery specialized in greasy chicken and a whole lot of grits . . . you ever had grits? . . . Kinda like used cat sand mixed with MaltoMeal (an ancient hot breakfast cereal that had its own TV commercials when I was a kid).
Although no one in Toadsuck knew the origins of the name, I found those who worked and/or lived there shouldn't be called "Toadsuckers," without really pissing off the locals!
