Controversial or Political Blogs

Blog Last Activity 9 years ago 511 views 9 comments

The blog forum is relatively open to post blogs about nearly any subject. Some posters post things just to get attention. Once you learn of a bloggers intent, those that are just trying to create conflict or are unable to handle any disagreement with their point of view or issue blogged, it is my experience that the wisest thing is to ignore the blog and the blogger. There are those that can manage an intelligent dialogue and debate about their point of view. And I for one, feel free to engage with them. The others...I fall back on the old internet wisdom....NEVER FEED THE TROLLS....let them starve from inattention. Just my thought. Y'all are free to do as you wish.

Ok, this is going to be a really long reply so I'll do a summary in brackets at the end for those who don't want to read the whole thing... I used to think like that but then last year happened...  So here's where I am at, at the moment, with regards to the trolls and the morons following the alt-right.  I spent the last the last two years campaigning, leafleting and debating in support of staying in the EU, here in the UK.  I was impassioned but civil, polite and respectful in my arguements and I had, you know, the truth and facts on my side... frequently the retalitory come backs were filled with lies, misinformation and outright bile.  I would either respond calmly or just ignore them, because you know, Trolls...  We lost and now the UK is figuratively standing at the cliff edge and smiling as it prepares to throw itself into the choppy rock strewn waters below.  Over here our left wing political movement is defined by the Labour party. It's leader is Jeremy Corbyn a democratic solcialist and a reasonable man whose whole thing is "A kinder and gentler politics".  He's a genuinely good man who wants a fair just and equal society for all... and as a paid up member of the Labour Party I voted for him, twice (once to become leader and again a second time when his own parliamentry party passed a vote of no confidence in him).  "He's the guy" I thought, "a decent, honest man who'll fix everything when people see that."  Nope, he's too busy being gentle and kind and ignoring the trolls while the rise of the far right in the west just keeps on rolling.  He's literally done NOTHING!  And they're becoming stronger.  I'm done.  Genuinely, I'm done!  So Fuck the al-right!  Fuck the alt-right and the swamp every supporter of it crawled out of. You know, I've recently been reminded of my school years.  I was outed pretty young (14 in fact) after making the mistake of telling a 'friend' that I was gay.  And I was bullied for about 3 months while I either deflected their name calling or turned the other cheek. I'm sure most of us have had to deal with something like that at some point. You know what eventually stopped it though?  I decided that enough was enough and that rather than backing down yet again I'd fight back against one of the bullies.  It was the lead thug who slapped the back of my head as I was walking up the stairs to class with friends... the next slap I grabbed his wrist before it landed, beat him to the ground and with my foot on his elbow and his wrist in hands, I broke his right arm!  Just snapped it.  I was suspended for two weeks and he ended up in the hospital... but when I came back.  No more bullying.  From any of them.  I'd won my war.  Michelle Obama said something during your recent election "When they go low, we go high!" and it's a beautiful sentiment and one that I try to live by but I think that we're beyond that now.  One of the issues that the left currently faces is its tolerance - its desire to be tolerant of the intolerant and just accept that their views are their views is one of the reasons we are where we are.  The left has been engaged in a campaign of actively ignoring these people.  Which leads us to the Alt-Right guys.  For the record Alt Right = Nazi (lets call a spade a spade) and I don't mean internet nazi but a literal Nazi!  So anyone who doesn't cheer when shitheels like Richard Spencer gets punched in the gob is on the wrong side of history here.  Take the trolling to the streets I say!  The left need to stop ignoring the trolls and worrying about who gets to piss in what bathroom.  There is a real war going on right now and one that the ugly souled little alt-right peons, who no doubt giggle like a japanese school girls behind their monitors as they vomit hatred onto the internet, are winning.  They're emboldened by victories like Trump and Brexit.  The left need to engage and go low.  Otherwise the fuckers will continue to walk right over us.  These degenerate, alternative fact spouting, info wars loving, breitbart reading pieces of filth are currently on the winning team.  The one good thing about Trump taking office is that it has allowed the human garbage to rise to the surface.  We see them now.  We know who they are.  So while they lionize vicious paranoid schizophrenic cunts like Alex Jones and desperate starfucking little collaberators like Milo Yiannopolous, while they scream from diseased mouths that fiction is fact - know that all they've done... is reveal themselves.  Oh yeah... and know that I'm done.  Ignoring the Trolls isn't going to work anymore.  Where we can we need to visibly and publicly hit them with reasonable, intelligent debate and have them reveal their true natures when their responses are lies and insults. These are people who will advocate ethnic cleansing and the death or deportation of millions and still try to look casual in Newsweek. And once you call for the eradication of millions of people, you're so dehumanized that they don't deserve the benefit of being ignored anymore. They have let the veneer of a civilized human being, that they must have had at one point, crack and I hope someone treats them with the same kindness that protestors showed Richard Spencer.  (So in summary, you raise a good point, I've tried it and now the bad guys are winning - time to troll back I say!)

YES, Thank you Thomas. The blogs should be a place to discuss any subject you feel that you have an opinion on. To be able to discuss any subject openly, rationally and with emotional maturity is a demonstration of proper intelligence. I always look forward to these types of discussions on here, sadly, they seem to be lacking lately.

The key here is dialogue.  The important thing is to listen to each other without getting emotional about it.
