7 Quotes to Remember John Glenn By
1. “To look out at this kind of creation out here and not believe in God is to me impossible. It just strengthens my faith. I wish there were words to describe what it's like.”
2. "It has been my observation that the happiest of people, the vibrant doers of the world, are almost always those who are using - who are putting into play, calling upon, depending upon - the greatest number of their God-given talents and capabilities."
3. "Old folks have dreams and ambitions too, like everybody else. Don't sit on a couch someplace.”
4. "I'm not interested in my legacy. I made up a word: 'live-acy.' I'm more interested in living."
5. "I pray every day and think everybody should."
6. “There are times when you devote yourself to a higher cause than personal safety.”
7. “If there is one thing I’ve learned in my years on this planet, it’s that the happiest and most fulfilled people I’ve known are those who devoted themselves to something bigger and more profound than merely their own self interest.”
If religion / gods had never been invented by man .... scientists would have had free reign and we would be living for hundreds of years, maybe even immortal. Even with religion to fight against we now live twice as long as we did just a couple of hundred years ago. The mindless belief in a God in order to allow "death denial" has been mankinds greatest stumbling block and has resulted in more human beings dying young than have died from natural causes / old age. The evil of religion might even cause our extinction. Hopefully if the USA is successful in starting WW3 then most of the imbeciles who believe in a god will be nuked out of existence and those of us who survive the nuclear fallout will be able to restart human life on Earth without all the religious insanity !
I watched his earth orbit on TV. I was a facinated 11yo at the time. :D
Goodbye to a true american hero. He took the chance of being shot into space when we had never done it before with a human being and had no idea if it was going to work or not. Sitting in that tiny capsule on top of a giant fuel tank aka a huge bomb waiting to explode takes some incredible guts. Today's space flights (dangerous as they are) are luxury cruises to what he endured. True bravery.
I now, apparently, receive most of the news that actually matters to me from GBT blogs. I don't know what that implies, exactly, but I do appreciate getting news this way. Sorry to see John Glenn pass... But he did live a good, long time, did he not? Anyway, thanks for posting this...
John Glenn was NOT the first man to go to, nor walk, on the moon.
He was the first man to ORBIT the earth.
'To boldly go where no man had gone before'
GOD speed John Glenn. Thank you for your service.
First American to orbit in space. Served his country well I would say.
Now exploring the infinite cosmos.
