When I lived in Amritsar for one year, Diwali was the biggest holiday ever! From just before sunset until just before sunrise, there'd be a constant barrage of fireworks going off in every direction. Next morning, the city was covered in a light blue haze. In Bangalore, Diwali was a big event, too, but nothing compared to Amritsar. And both cities make the US Independence Day celebrations seem totally subdued.
