I think there are unofficial dating rules about how soon after a first date you should contact the other person. You don't want to have him feel that you're rushing things and you don't want him to feel ignored either. I'd guess a text message telling him how much you enjoyed your date with him would be okay, and then see how he responds. And, like Sam said, just let things develop at their own pace.
