Sometimes you have to stand up to the boss. Win or lose! Mine runs from me. I haven't seen him in over six months

I was writting programs for a private consulting company. I was by far the youngest and I was the best. I am not bragging I am just good at it. He would take my finished program and go ovver code from begining to end and naturally would find no errors. He then would say I took to long but In was in the tp 5 out of 20. So I was telling my Dad I was 16 and after like 2 weeks he went down there. He's never a hot head but he is VERY firm. He got Rodger and told him my son no longer works her, I am now going to the CEO have him pull all my sons work and see if it meets or excees standards. My dad did that' He was a 2 term DA in Fulton County so people knew his name well the CEO quickly agreed when my father said he is in a hostile work environment and there are legal remedies for that you are awre. The CEO said Tom let me investigate this I don't want a 16 yr old boy harassed. The CEO said I was in the top 3 with accuracy and production. My boss Cliff got pulled in the office and this idiot thought I wanted his job. Now I am 16 not even out of high school. The answer is they are over their head and are looking for innocent people to blame. So I was moved from his work group and was by myself with his assistant giving me my work. My last day there the CEO asked are you coming back next summer? I said no I went through hell and it took my Dad to notice it I'd never work here again and he was speechless and I left. These managers are incompetent and afraid they may get bad reviews or fired. That's my experience.

Good, Scotty. Dylan has the right take on this: https://www.facebook.com/moldyjohn/videos/393563860715333/ (He may be an a-hole, or he may be a prince, but you've got to serve somebody. ?? )

Attaboy! To quote Thornton Melon (Sir Rodney of Dangerfield) in the peerless comedy 'Back to School': 'I don't take no shit from anybody'!

Please do not misunderstand my next comment, you might consider that you don't know what kind of pressure your manager is under either. Perhaps you are doing a good job but others under his authority are not thus leaving him under the gun so to speak. Remember everyone has a boss ( at lease in corporate America) As I said before unless his being mean is personal or non job related just realize that if you truly do your best nothing else matters

Scott.. I also know this feeling and it is not nice. Like you have said yourself don't appologise to them cause that gives them that little bit more power over you. If you can go and see someone higher than him and tell that person (privately) EVERYTHING . If you speak the truth then you won't have anything to worry abbout. Let me know how you get on

Old saying: 'A person rises to one's natural level of incompetence'. Sad but all too often true.

Scott...I feel for you. As someone that managed people in the corporate world for over 35 years, my experience with other mangers (both that managed me and my peers) is that don't have a clue on what it takes to manage. They got promoted into the job because they were good at the job before. And the took the job for the money and prestige, and now they are shitting their pants because they don't have a clue on what to do and are scared to death someone will figure you that they are incompetent. @gm4yngr makes some good points. But good managers are rare in my opinion. So yes, you can get another job and the chances are you will find another asshole as your boss. Remember he needs you to do a good job so he looks good, so ignore his bull shit. It is just a control game for him. And unless the harassment is beyond the pale, going up the chain of command may not get you anything.

You need to evaluate your position, is this job something you want to do as a career or is it just a paycheck? If its just a paycheck get another one! If however its a career then you need to grow some thick skin and hang in there. Don't let some bully take you away from something you love doing. If you are planning on moving up the corporate ladder learn the lesson well so that someday when you are the manager you wont treat your subordinates the way you are currently being treated. Middle managers change like the season, chances are you will outlast him

Your manager obviously has some personal problem, it may very well be that he feels inferior to you in some way. You might try to make him feel better about himself by occasionally asking him stupid questions. Make the questions just easy enough for him to answer, but hard enough for him to believe that you need his answer. This approach works for me, whenever I have a good idea about how something should be done I tell my boss part of the idea but leave out all of the details. Pretending to not have all of the details figured out gives him the chance to improve on it and give himself credit for being smarter than me. When he feels superior to me, my life is much easier at work. Also, whenever he gives you a new task to perform, pretend to not fully understand how to do it and ask him for a little guidance. If you build up his ego hopefully he will not feel the need to do it himself by belittling you.

Dear austinpscottt : i know that type of manager, i know why he is such a prick., to put it mildly, You are Good at your job, i believe that, and that's the reason he is like that again s you. To put it simply he is scared of you, by doing your job this good you are a threat to him and his position. Some 1 higher up than him, could notice that, your better than he is, and that wood cost your manager a bonus ore a promotion. Hope this help a bit explaining his behavior to you.

You have no reason to be sorry Scott. Go over this persons head and report this person in writing. Always get everything in writing. Cover your ass. If you go over this persons head and nothing happens. Keep going up the ladder until someone listens. I'm sure y8u are not the only one who feels the same way you do at this job. Try and get someone who is going through the same abuse to report this bully.

RobbietheRobot sounds pretty close. Most bullies have some hidden issue that gnaws at them and they make like miserable for others because of it. It is often having a tiny penis. It may also be wanting to hide their own attraction to other males. It can arise from just about any other type of inadequacy that they want to hide. It is not about you. You just happen to be one of the persons who has to put up with it.

If they cant respect you, its best to find somewhere else that will. You deserve better than that.
