Feliz día de 4 de Julio

The American Revolutionary War was a conflict that pitted the original thirteen British colonies in North America against the Kingdom of Great Britain. It happened between 1775 and 1783, ending with the British defeat at the Battle of Yorktown and the signing of the Treaty of Paris.

During the war, France helped the American revolutionaries with ground troops under Rochambeau and the Marquis de La Fayette and fleet under the command of marine and Guichen, Grasse and d'Estaing. Spain, meanwhile, initially made by Bernardo de Galvez and openly from the Battle of Saratoga, using weapons, supplies and opening a front in the south flank.

British colonies that became independent from Britain built the first liberal democratic political system, illuminating a new nation, the United States, incorporating the new revolutionary ideas advocating equality and freedom. This colonial society was formed from waves of settlers and immigrants there were in it the characteristics of rigid European stratified system.

In the southern colonies (Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia) he had organized a slave system (with about 500,000 black slaves) who exploited snuff plantations, cotton and sugar. Thus, the population was made up of large and small owners and slaves.

The background to the War of Independence of the United States dating back to the Franco-British confrontation in North America and the consequences of the Seven Years' War.

The Seven Years' War ended in 1763. On February 10, the Treaty of Paris ended the French colonial empire in North America and consolidated to England as the hegemonic power. In opposition he had only to Spain, which controlled New Orleans, the largest city, with about 10 000 inhabitants. For France, the territorial loss was not felt as something catastrophic. Newfoundland fishing rights were preserved and Francophone Catholic population would be treated with respect. On the other hand, in the Caribbean the losses can be compensated because the French main colony in the Caribbean, Saint-Domingue (the Spanish) with capital Port au Prince, produces half of the sugar consumed worldwide, and its trade with Africa and the West Indies is in full swing.

Regarding the American colonists, the war radically altered the previous panorama. Catholic francophone Quebec, traditional enemies of the American colonists in the Thirteen Colonies, received respectful treatment by the British authorities. Treatment was confirmed in 1774 when Canada gave a special status within the American colonies, leaving its borders until the confluence of the Ohio and the Mississippi. Its population also retains its own civil law and the Catholic Church is recognized. All these movements were poorly accepted by the population of the Thirteen Colonies.

The immediate cause of this conflict was the unfair treatment inflicted British settlers, as these contributed wealth and taxes to the metropolis but did not have the means to decide on these taxes, so they felt marginalized and unrepresented.

thx dave..let's also remember this is independence day as well. to me, it seems we have all been slowly brainwashed to refer to this day as the "4th". maybe we should forget we are indeed independent? and maybe one day we can celebrate the "25th".
call me old fashion.
off to work.. have a fun safe weekend y'all
