Larger repressed homo popullation?

<p>I think I heard the gay population is about 1%. But do you think its bigger, made up of people who don't come out for religious, societal/ cultural reasons and deny their true nature or maybe something similar on those lines (like straight people looking at this website?)</p>

Thanks Kocha9999! I appreciate being acknowledged! Sometimes I feel ignored, eh. Of course each side of the debate here have their own agendas and that needs to be known and acknowledged! I just think most people are afraid to admit certain things mere less make considerations, eh?

There are but for their own safety and sanity the are going to stay in the closet. Your options for meeting them are 1. online or 2. when you move awa 'to the big' city and meet up with the home town boys and only then you find out who was gay. I lived in absolute TERROR of this huge kid on my street ever finding out about me. Years later he was the biggest queen I'd ever seen. If I'd only known. Hang in there!

ZanyZander is exactly 100% correct! The number of "straight" guys who've lightly tapped on my door (Lightly so their gf can't hear?) over the years suggests he's on to something. Course thee guys were totally staight, parading around with the gf the next day. Could they be the missing 8%? These in-the-closet and down-low boys? I wish! Then again I wouldn't have gotten much sleep! We're all bi: most of us are in denial about it.

I.ve looked at this question my whole life. Done tonnes of research. Ignoring the "political" number of 10% for what it is, the best number I could come up with is between 1.5 and 2%.

Take the case of Canada: Being gay is legal; gay marriage has been legal for 19 years; many elected officials are openly gay including the current Premier of Ontario who's an out lesbian. Serving military members can get married, in uniform, on base. In high schools many provinces protect high school GSAs (Gay Straight Alliances).

OK, so we're doing pretty good up here in some ways. So if there's nothing holding us back, where is the 10% gay consumer base ordering gay TV channels, or gay-you-name-it in numbers approaching 10%. Ten per cent is enough to make any big company, any marketing type, sit up and salivate. Nowadays pink money is as good as green. You don't see 10%? Me neither. I wish there were more of us but there aren't. 2% tops.

Most surveys in the U.S. put the percentage about 4% to 5%. Not sure how many people won't admit it even when polled anonymously. I'm guessing the percentage is between 5% and 10%.
