Good on u Ron Proud to call you a friend and u did the right thing.
I was bullied at work when young as it was a place with lots of 40 plus
guys .I was nieve but when i became 19 i learnt to take no shit and i guess it was those older guys were i learnt to speack up for myself
and look out for new younger staff who offen get taken advantage off.
It taught me that bulling is not just in schools and that a Employer
can be one of the worst bullys if you let them get away with it.

@batman - oh ok, the pack mentality, yes I can imagine...hard to fight that on your own

NB I'm not one to look for confrontation .. but my fuse is measured, and calculated when I decide to light it! lol! You have no idea how the wolf pack mentality in Police, Fire and military can circle the wagons when they want to fuck some one over..you spill the beans outside the "clique" of members and management, you pay big time..They got their just deserve and IF any of them step out of line again, or are in front of HR they will be fired.. good enough for me.

over 27 years in the fire dept. I endured innuendo, jokes, pranks, hurtful comments JUST because I was single in my 50's, never married and it was just ASSUMED I was gay. I documented all comments etc. in my mind...In 2003 a nice young man joined the dept. He was a real country boy, perceived by these bullies as a "duffus" and they pulled many hurtful pranks and comments directed towards him. After a number of months, I as a Capt. and "supervisor" had a complaint from a third party about the treatment this guy was getting. I was required by law to act. After much deliberation, I decided to file a formal complaint with the City Human Rights Officer. It is against the Fire Dept.
chain of command /bullshit/ mentality/ system, not to take anything "out of the hall or district" ..a closed shop mentality, like the Police and Military, so they can bury problems internally, and cover up problems when needed ..but I did what I was required to do. Knowing the repercussions I would face, in retaliation, I decided to do so, then retire November 2004. 23 of these bully/accusers/pranksters/homophobes were hauled up on the carpet for their treatment of this new kid,and me. I went on sick leave 6 months and I heard these smart asses were all shaking in their boots when called in. 23 were reprimanded, got memos attached to their employment file..and 3500 got human rights training, and were warned! .. the "closed shop" Fire Dept. got egg on their face because senior officers, just sat back and watched and did nothing about homophobia, sexism, and discrimination towards minorities, that was found to be rampant and the Dept. was told to change it's attitudes, about whistleblowers, and it's internal hierarchy problems re human rights. Just as a footnote, police and EMS had vehicles in the gay pride parade for several years, but not the Fire dept. Well I mentioned that in my complaint, to enforce the homophobia that existed, and the next year the Fire Dept. had a vehicle in the parade. Also just to address one comment in another blog... ....sometimes it becomes necessary in the workplace to be a "rat/fibber" ;)Lmgfao!

That sounds awful stargeeyzer HUGS - thank you for sharing...If you had simply shot the prick 21 years ago, to teach him a lesson - that you don't take shit from anybody - it is hard to see how you would have been worse off....and it would have made a few other wankers think twice.

everyone....I was harrased and abused emotionally, taunted off my job as general manager of a large location 21 years ago, mostly by my corporate boss, and then word spread to everybody that worked for me for basically being gay, although i was closeted, and also having a fling with a girl at the same time (bisexual)...I went into a schizophrenic breakdown, and was suicidal for years...i have never worked since, being completely disabled by the situation ever since..i am a total hermit, not trusting anyone, it having forever ruined my active life and health, even heart attack and heart surgery...my lawyer sued for $4.5 million dollars US...we got nothing, i was blackmailed with total outing, promised to be blackballed for life, and was threatened with statements my boss had made-up from employees with underage boys, which i never had a relationship with, and true statements from guys that i did have, although exaggerated with some false details (legal guys)...at the time being suicidal, i totally gave up, considered homicide at that time, but thought better of it (sometimes these bosses should just be shot)...this is why i don't communicate with anybody, ever....I Wish the World was differant, but it ain't...life goes on, and disability gets me by, along with a stunted heart, which will one day kill me earlier than normal...Who do you appeal these things to?...who gets to claim final justice in the end? where do you go for final justice on a situation like this? I have been told to write a book, and name names, but the company was worth a couple hundred million dollars, and has been sold a couple times, now being owned by a huge private equity firm...the name brand for my old company is still out there, and the Equity company has huge ties to the US equities industry.....What can be done...we live as fucking second class citizens still...when will it be right? and for the future, that's great for those guys in the future, but where do i go to get those 21 years back.....end transmission, except for i contemplated publishing right before i might die,....the company never liked blacks, gays, or any other alternative lifestyle such as cross-dress and body piercing.....Is it even possible to bring a billion-dollar capital firm to its knees?...hopefully to suck my dick..unfortunately, i dont think i have the fight left in me, but until we change these mega-billionaires, the attitude will stay the same
