Stress Management

Blog Last Activity 13 years ago 501 views 15 comments
A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the “half empty or half full” question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired: “How heavy is this glass of water?”

Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.

She replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn’t change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.” She continued, “The stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed – incapable of doing anything.”

It’s important to remember to let go of your stresses. As early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down. Don’t carry them through the evening and into the night. Remember to put the glass down!

Stress can be like a field of land mines. Be cautious were you step and don't go there unless it's necessary. Camel pack is always better than a glass.

Some people know, just when to put that glass down but others will simply hold on to it and
just wait and wait until they just ,cant hold it anymore. "How we perceive a situation and how we react to it is the basis of our stress. If you focus on the negative in any situation, you can expect high stress levels. However, if you try and see the good in the situation, your stress levels will greatly diminish."

it is good to let things go that are negative for sure, i wish i could let something go, as i have let go of other bad stuff, but i can't yet. Negative things are harder to carrry and wear on you, and drain you energies. On a lighter note though i never let go of my glass 'til I've finished my drinkies, around here you have to keep an close eye on it lol.

Whatever stresses you get in life think of the positives in them and don't dwell on the negatives - that way your stress levels will go down.Works for me anyway.

interesting view on stress, its similar with negative thoughts, if you give out too much negativity it can bring your friends down, but if you enter their group with a positive attitude everyone gets a lift.
