Yes, I am a dreaded -R-. Probably the only one here on this site. That makes me a pariah on most things I guess. Why my colleagues on the -R- side wage war against gays on the marriage issue is beyond me. Finally, a prominent Senator, Rob Portman, from the fine state of Ohio, changed course today and now 100% stands in favor of it. According to the reports, his son came out to him in February 2011, telling him he had been gay as long as he could remember. "it's not a lifestyle, its the way people are born, and as such, there's no reason why the Government should deny them the right to a civll union."

It's nice for once to not be the only -R- for once that thinks this! Each of you please take a minute to write Sr. Portman and thank him for pulling his head out of his yip.

I am glad that this guy took his son's love and courage into his own heart ant then on to the Senate Floor. The ability of a person to change their mind, requires a mind in the first place, he obviously has an open one now. Often I wonder about people who continue to refuse on this and other human issues. Most older people and many younger people who are so set in their opinions that they can not even consider facts, are just going to eventually become the ignorant minority.
Being Gay is not a choice or a 'lifestyle' and most parents of non-hetro offspring already know when they have the open conversation. Mothers usually know and Dads usually do too and try to deny it to themselves. even before their son or daughter opens up with their secret and gets it out in the honest conversation, they usually know.
So what that means is that there are many many regular people (parents and friends of gays) out there who down deep know that we should have the rights and dignities that everyone else has, including those rights such as being openly and lovingly committed to each other in marriage.
The dumbies are outnumbered on this, and change for the better is underway for sure.

This u-turn is not unique, in Germany the party of female chancellor Merkel made one a few weeks ago. They were always fighting against the equalization of the gay- and the straight-marriage, from second to second they turned around and thought loud and official about the acceptance. It seems that the party turns liberal and cosmopolitan, most people were surprised , but did support this approach. Only one week later after protest from the small old-fashioned and conservative wing of the party they turned around again! This is absolutely embarrassing and wimpy. Not long ago the both biggest cities of Germany Hamburg and Berlin had gay mayors. The one in Berlin is still in office. We have a gay foreign minister and many gays in important positions in economy and politics. I can’t understand why politicians make a hard difference between straight and gay, while in the general public no-one has a problem. Wake up! Now!

yeah bud!! here's another "R"!! but im a true "constitutionalist". that means the govt cannot use religion to oppress me. in this case..marriage, DOMA is soooo unconstitutional in my opinion as well as many others. its only purpose is to save govt tax $$!! but heres the deal.. no politician on the fed level has anything to marriage. every state has the option to decide this issue.
so, dont feel alone!!!

I remember a CEO of a big Heath Insurance Company who refused to fund a Needed Cancer Drug a few years ago. Next thing you know his with came down with That same Cancer,and
you guessed it,they funded that drug the very next week.I wonder why haha
