The idea that overbearing mothers and weak / absent fathers cause you to be gay was discredited *decades* ago in psychology but lives on in popular culture. It's often based on the discredited work of psychoanalyst Irving Bieber in the 1960s. See:

I have one of the straightest best friends in the world and his mom was totally dominant. She raised him by herself so I don't think that has any bearing on becoming gay. I agree with usainindia its all about ur interests from birth. I hope my buddy was gay though because he is so hot but the consolation is that he is exxtremely gay friendly and totally supportive which he learned from his mom. I only wish she had been my mom which she kind of was since I spent more time there then home.

I believe ALL guys are at least curious about what sex would be like with another guy. At least once! Statistcs bear that out. And any guy that has ever been in a locker room has seen even the str8 est guy stealing glances. It's just a question if they act on it.

I believe that virtually all gay and bi curious guys are born that way. It might take a number of years before most recognized that in themselves, but it has been part of their being all of their life. Most of the gay guys I know did not have dominant or single mothers. Some did, but I don't think that lead any of them to being gay or bi.
