Is this question asking for a philosophical point of view answer or the scientific point of view answer? I am a man of science, so from my point of view yes there is life, past, present, or future, out there, it's just has been found, or they haven't confront us yet. We live in a relatively small universe with a relatively young age. Space is infinitely a huge, well, space.

The scientist Carl Sagan. Look what he writes about child reincarnation. Then look for some real amazing examples on the net. Then realize them dreams you had might be.... There must be unlimited universes, were just way too thick to work it out yet. :)

There are around 100 billion galaxies out there, each with around a hundred billion stars. If only if only 1% of those stars have planetary systems and 1% of those system have just one planet capable of sustaining life, that's still millions of planets with life.
It would be foolishly arrogant to assume that our planet is the only one to have developed life.

I believe there is almost certainly life elsewhere in this universe, probably with in this galaxy, I also believe we have never been visited by little green men or any other life alien to our world, the vast distance is to hard to overcome but they are out there.

I think it is ridiculously arrogant to believe we are the only planet with life in the vast universe, on the other hand I am not expecting we shall make contact with them any time soon!
