hey danny. i can tell you mike1946 say that but mean no harm. he is a great guy and prolly use that joke that been around here in usa and i hear it before cos mum is from county cork and hey, she laff at it but not as much as i laff at story of her in a pub order paddy with water and bar man say, 'good god woman you're murderin it!' ya i only have paddy a couple times with me dad who is a brit and we both do it cos of mum! ya im 20 and live with them cos they older and so what. i work 12 hour days to keep this boarding hosue going and i mean bake, clean it good and cook too. i have citizenship with both me parents home lands and learn the history and ways and all that go on here in usa too. what mike1946 say is not mean like 'no irish need apply' so do not feel bad. he means it more like 'i will be your friend an try to meet requirement of irish' and come on now ~ i buy us all a half and then maybe another two or more and this all go away. btw, im yank born but say 'erin go bragh' and mean it in me heart just as i love me dad's heritage. others who are mean and nasty (and that so not mike1946) you know what say to them right? Your question implied that Mike1946'S comment was racist when the majority here do not think it was,
everyone no doubt agrees that there is no place for racism here or anywhere else but Mike's comment was not an example.

I am surprised this controversy has gone on so long and become so heated..I just don't see how Mike1946's original comment could be called racist in the normal sense of the word..I think several of you are using any excuse, however unjustifiable, to trumpet your anti-racism credentials and the last comment begs the question of whether it was racist or not.
There are many Brits of a younger generation, forgetful of their crucial role in defeating fascism in 1939-45), who routinely criticise our American friends in what Danny would no doubt call racist terms...yet no one complains.

Children - STOP. We are who we are. No need to be SILLY. Mike1946 is a good person. I don't see this as racist. If it is send a message to Hollywood who helped cause this role appearance. Danny30 slow down a little - I hate bullys and racist. Think your stretching the race card VERY THIN and Danny is nice too. Georgets - your comments are MEAN, back down a little (please). You're being oversensitive. I see 3 distinct types of racist humour. 1. Borat - poking fun at the racists by being racist himself to provoke their racism. 2. Bernard Manning - 1950's old school racist humour which is no longer appropriate. 3. Racism Between Friends - you'll see Louis CK being racist towards a couple of black comedians he's friends with. They'll be racist back to Louis. But they are friends so its all in good fun.

In your case 'mike1946' made the mistake of using no.3 in an introduction. He's not racist: If anything he's just a little socially unaware. If he really was born in 1946 then I'd be more lenient on him still. Hell - even if he was 18 I'd not care if someone took the piss out of my race/nationality - I'd just do it right back. And many great friendships have been made that way - by taking the piss out of each other.

The Irish are not a race just a nationality.... all nationalities get teased for their perceived typical habits...frogs, krauts etc.
